Building Community
Leader in Me
John Cabrillo is proud to be a Leader in Me school site. We constantly strive to develop leadership skills in all members of our Cabrillo community and practice the seven habits. Each month classes highlight a particular habit and infuse them into the classroom culture and academic instruction.
- September: Creating a Leadership Classroom
- October: Be Proactive
- November: Begin With the End in Mind
- December: Put First Things First
- January: Think-Win-Win
- February: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
- March: Synergize
- April: Sharpen the Saw
- May: Find Your Voice
- June: Celebrate!
Community Building Days
Every month at Cabrillo students participate in Community Building days. Community Building days’ focus on ways to build community and often relate to our Leader in Me habit of the month. Some examples are, Anti-Bullying Pledge, Make-A-Wish letters, Leadership Symposium, STEM Day, Campus Beautification, and Field Day.
Buddy Classes
Every class at Cabrillo has a Buddy Class. Big Buddies and Little Buddies meet monthly to work on leadership skills, reading, cooperation, and relationship building.
Morning Sing
Every Friday morning our kinder-3rd grade students participate in Morning Sing. Students and staff enjoy a variety of music genres while they read and sing along.
